The Lost Land Adventure itinerary

For more than 35 million years the whole area of The Lost Land was fully submerged with water, forming part of the beautiful underwater rock formations of the Red Sea.

After millions of years of evolution the water has completely subsided from the entire area meaning that this magical underwater landscape is now 1600m above sea level.

And for the first time visitors to Sinai have the unique opportunity to discover this area for themselves with our exclusive journey of discovery to this area of ancient wonder.

Our day begins with an early morning drive through the Sinai mountain range, past Dahab and Nuweiba onto the beautiful coastal road that few visitors have a chance to see while on other excursions in the Sinai Peninsula.

The stunning Fjord Bay area appears between the mountains ahead and is one the most beautiful photo spots in all of Egypt. This tranquil bay of crystal clear water, where the mountains meet the sea, is one of the most untouched natural spots in Egypt. During our stop here there is plenty of opportunity for memorable holiday snaps and guests will want to make sure they have their camera batteries/memory cards with them for this spot!

Soon we arrive at a traditional Bedouin camp for tea and a briefing on what will take place on our day of adventure. Driving on into the desert, we take in the first panoramic view of The Lost Land. This spectacular rock formation closely resembles another famous large rock foundation-the Grand Canyon in the U.S! More stunning views here, including the prehistoric lava that flows from a cliff top standing at 1800m above sea level and clear views across to Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Next stop is the Canyon walks; three of the most untouched canyons in all of Sinai and named the Coral, Caramel and Chocolate canyons after the unique colors of the Sand and stone in each. Guests will have lots of fun as they wiggle, squeeze, duck and weave through each canyon lined with fine white powdery sand, followed by wondrous rock and coral formations dating back 35 million years.

Some of the canyons can be quite narrow at times so we would advise anyone who does not feel comfortable spending any brief time in a confined space to take the option of not participating in this short part of the excursion. They will not miss out as can stay outside of the canyon area but still see the amazing formations, and meet up with the rest of the group as they come out of the canyon area.
Both adult and children travelers alike will be amazed by these canyons-one of Egypt's most
undiscovered natural wonders!

This unique and exciting excursion is one of a kind! Falcon Safari has exclusive rights and sole access to The Lost Land; you will not find this amazing adventure with any other tour operator in Egypt or indeed the world! This is a ‘must do’ tour whilst on holiday here in Sharm el Sheikh.

Back into the Jeep for an exciting desert drive taking in sand dunes and breathtaking views. You will marvel at the skill with which your local Bedouin driver navigates this rugged and unchartered land.
Back to the Bedouin camp for a refreshing tea stop followed by a ramble through the rocks to explore an underground tunnel leading out onto steep sandy slopes to slide and ski down to your heart's content!
We will then arrive at some mysterious rock carvings dating back 2000 years, said to be the faces of Cleopatra and Marc Anthony carved by the Romans.

The second part of the trip!

A final drive through the desert takes you back to Taba, and start the second part of the trip, the sea trip! The way of this yaht laying around the Pharaoh Island with his famous castle, and with the view for four countries; Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia.

The island is named after the famous historical figure Saladin, the Kurdish Sultan who built the castle. Also known as Salah el Deen, you may already know this character from the popular film "Kingdom of Heaven" starring Orlando Bloom.

The swimming 35 minutes from the board of the yacht and the lunch will be on the board with fantastic views of the ancient Saladin Castle set on its own island.

The sea trip is finishing maximum at 5:00 pm. And the arrival to Sharm el Sheikh will be between 7:00 and 8:00 pm.

Our excursion winds down as we drive back along the coastal road with spectacular views across to Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Depending on the time of year, our drive through the Sinai mountains may also be during sunset time, giving guests the chance to witness the changing colors of the mountains to various hues of red in the fading light.

However for those of you with mobile phones on a roaming service you will receive a 'Welcome to Israel' text message from the telecom company which will prove you visited the spot and makes a unique souvenir!

Saladin island and Castle Fact sheet:

The great Kurdish Sultan Saladin, along with Richard the Lion heart of Great Britain, are two names that tend to dominate the fascinating historical stories of the Crusades.

Both have gone down in medieval history as great military leaders though their impact was limited to the Third Crusade

Saladin Island is located on an inlet of the Sinai coastline and is the home of Saladin's Castle, an outstanding historical and monumental place.

It is located 60 kilometers north of Nuweiba and 7 kilometers to the South of Taba on the Sinai Peninsula
It is famous for two reasons-
The first reason is its distinctive location overseeing the Gulf of Al Aqaba from all its direction viewing the lands of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Taba in Egypt.

The second reason why this island is particularly important is the Fort of Saladin that he built on this island in 1170 AD which is considered an architectural gem
It was used to defend Egypt against the crusaders and the fort contains great untouched outer and inner walls and a number of control towers.

In modern times, it is best known as the last piece of land that was returned to Egypt following Israel's occupation of Sinai.

Saladin's Castle

The castle of Saladin represented the most strongly fortified defence line for Egypt and the rest of the Arab world during the time of the Crusades.
Archaeological excavations have proved that this islet had been used for military purposes in earlier Arab eras. Built by Saladin in 1170 A D, the castle consists of two sets of fortifications, northern and southern. Making full use of the islet's terrain, each set was built as a separate castle on a separate hill. Larger in size and details, the northern fortification is permeated by towers at the upper ends of the northern hill.

The structure of the castle is detailed and advanced with towers that have embrasures for hurling arrows in three directions and thick castle walls that contained catwalks for archers.
In this area, there was found a homing pigeon house. Exchanged messages presumably carried by homing pigeons could be identified by archeologists.
